Rev. Kimberly Olson
Rev. Kimberly Olson is currently serving as the interim pastor for the church. Kim was born and raised in San Diego, CA (which explains why "sunny and 70's" is still her favorite weather forecast). Most of Kim’s family remains in California including a 95 year old grandmother, parents, sisters, step-siblings, nieces, and nephews. Kim’s favorite job while growing up was at Baskin-Robbins where she began her life-long love of ice cream. Breaking with family tradition, Kim went far from home to attend college and received a B.A. from Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, MA. During her junior year, Kim studied abroad in Bogota, Colombia and traveled through Ecuador and Peru where she especially enjoyed visiting the Inca ruins of Machu Picchu.
Following graduation Kim headed west again and moved to Austin, TX where she received a Master’s Degree in Latin American History from the University of Texas. There she met and married Richard Baker who received a Ph.D. in Philosophy from UT and soon after accepted a teaching position at Presbyterian College in Clinton, SC. Kim had begun her theological studies at Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary, but with the move to South Carolina transferred to Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, GA where she received her Master of Divinity degree in 1993.
Following her ordination to ministry in the Presbyterian Church (USA), Kim served the Seven Oaks Church in Columbia, SC as Associate Pastor, the Batesburg-Leesville Church in Batesburg-Leesville, SC as Pastor, the Presbyterian Home (Retirement Community) in Clinton, SC as Chaplain, and the Thornwell Home and School for Children in Clinton, SC as Campus Pastor. Thornwell is a ministry of the Presbyterian Church that serves abandoned, abused, and neglected children and youth. It was there—perhaps more than anywhere else—that Kim learned that worship can be the center of a community’s life—and can sometimes even be fun. And it was also there—through the faith and doubts of the children and youth—that she grasped more fully the significance of God’s promise to be the light shining in darkness.
In June of 2006 the Baker-Olson family moved to Indiana so Richard could accept the position of Theologian in Residence at Second Presbyterian Church, Indianapolis. Kim accepted the position of interim pastor for the church in January, 2007.
